Mission and Vision

Jeffers Driving Academy uses years of experience and innovation to educate students and families in order to save lives and reduce injuries through organized curriculum, family involvement, and professional instruction. Our mission is to provide each student with the necessary information and techniques to be a SAFE RESPONSIBLE DRIVER. To provide a learning friendly environment that meets the needs of each student’s learning style. To recognize and understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses. To provide each student with the proper training so they can obtain an Indiana driver’s license. To provide the motoring public with SAFE RESPONSIBLE DRIVERS.

Instructors

Our Instructors have many years of experience working with teens as educators and youth service workers.  They all have, and understand the need to have a servants heart along with understanding of the many learning styles of young men and women.

Steve Jeffers Owner/Instructor

Steve has a BS Degree from Ball State University.  As the Owner of Jeffers Driving Academy, Steve has worked over 35 years with young men and women as a youth and music pastor and Training Coordinator of the Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie.  Steve is passionate about young people and has a desire to help them succeed in their life goals.

Vicki Jeffers Owner/Instructor

Vicki holds a BS Degree from Ball State University and a Master of Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Vicki was the Director of Choirs at Northside Middle School in Muncie however retired at the end of the 2017 school year.  She had been an educator for over 30 years and loves working with students.  She enjoyed watching her students grow and become confident in their talents and abilities.  She is now focusing all her time on the driving academy.

Kelli (Jeffers) Shore -

Office Manager

Kelli graduated from Muncie Central High School and attended Ball State University.  Kelli has over 12 years of experience working with youth and 6 years of experience in a Supervisory role at the Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie.  Kelli has a heart for young people and truly loves working with them.  As the Office Manager of Jeffers Driving Academy, Kelli is here to help you through the process of Driver Education to make your experience a pleasant one.  Feel free to call Kelli with any questions you might have.

Nic Jeffers Instructor

Nic holds a BS Degree from Ball State University.  Nic is the Physical Education Teacher at North View Elementary School in Muncie.  Nic is in the process of completing his Masters Degree and obtaining his Administrators license through Ball State University.  Nic enjoys driving with our students and hearing all about their life goals and teaching them to be safe and defensive drivers.

M. Tim Heller Instructor

Tim holds a BS Degree from Moorehead State, an MS Degree from Indiana University, and EDS Degree from Ball State University. He taught History, Drivers Education, and coached Basketball and Baseball for many years before becoming Principal at Southside High School. Mr. Heller then accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent at Muncie Community Schools. He later moved to Kentucky where he was a Superintendent until he retired. After retirement Tim moved back to Muncie and came out of retirement to be Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent at MCS. Tim loves watching students reach their full potential in driving and in life.

Brian M. Hirons Instructor

Brian holds a Bachelors and a Masters of Education Degree from Ball State University. He teaches 4th grade at Northview Elementary School in Muncie. Mr. Hirons is in his 30th year of teaching in Muncie Community Schools where he coaches basketball and track. Brian, and his wife Kendra, foster dogs from Animal Rescue Fund (ARF). He loves teaching and working with students in many capacities. He is excited to see his past students come through Driver Education and become safe and defensive drivers.

Kendra A. Hirons Instructor

Kendra holds a Bachelors and a Masters of Education Degree from Ball State University. She teaches 2nd grade at Royerton Elementary School in the Del-Com Community Schools. Mrs. Hirons is in her 26th year of teaching. She spent 23 years in Muncie Community Schools. Kendra is in her 3rd year at Royerton. Kendra, and her husband Brian, foster dogs from Animal Rescue Fund (ARF). She tutors students in her spare time when she is not teaching, Instructing Driver Education, and caring for her dogs.

Kathi (Hirons) Kesterson Instructor

Kathi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. After 25+ years in education, she retired from teaching in May 2019. She taught Spanish at Eastbrook High School 1999-2019 and at Mississinewa High School 1994-1999. Prior to teaching Spanish, she taught English as a Second Language in Caracas, Venezuela in the early 90s. Nowadays, following a lifelong passion for family history, Kathi is a Professional Genealogist and has recently earned her credentials from Boston University in Genealogical Research. Her website www.HoosierKin.com is growing daily -- sharing her work, teaching research methods, helping others make connections to their own history. As a Driving Instructor Kathi delights in seeing students grow in their independence while in Driver Education, moving forward towards their future with safe, defensive driving habits.

Gerald J. Hirons

Jerry was the Instructor that trained Steve, Vicki (Jerry’s cousin), and Nic Jeffers to be Behind the Wheel Driver Training Instructors. Upon his retirement, in December of 2014, Jeffers Driving Academy was born.
